Williamsburg Christian Academy Engages New Faculty Professional Development Program

Students from Williamsburg Christian Academy got a special treat on September 19th,…a day off just a few weeks into the school year. While the teens slept in and the younger students got a free day to play and relax, WCA teachers were back to school, both physically and metaphorically.

Williamsburg Christian Academy engaged its faculty on September 19th in the first of a series of faculty professional development days that will be scheduled throughout the year to enable them to receive new training, hone existing skills, and collaboratively launch and build the school’s new Curriculum Engineering program. The process included a close look at what is covered, how it is covered, and identifies any gaps that may currently exist and what the faculty needs to do to fill those gaps.  The entire process is designed for teachers to be able to teach to mastery at every level in every subject.

“It is vitally important for faculty to have concentrated time to reflect upon teaching practice and pour into our teachers on a professional level,” explained Williamsburg Christian Academy Head of School Dr. Dave Breslin. “In order to have the best teaching team possible, we have to provide them the tools they need and support them in every way possible. On these Professional Development days, we look at best practices as a pathway to improve teaching and learning.”

The Curriculum Engineering program is a big piece of this year’s initiatives at WCA, and is a grass roots program that Breslin feels will result in dynamic and team-oriented improvement in building upon an already strong curriculum at the school. “Curriculum Engineering is exactly what it says it is. We collectively as a leadership and faculty, engineer the curriculum to rocket our academic experience, rigor, and quality to an unparalleled level in our area. We firmly believe with this constant improvement model, our curriculum before long will be second to none, and I invite anyone interested in what we are doing here to come and meet with us to find out what we and this program are all about.”

WCA offers walk-in informational tours with their “Take a Tour Tuesdays” program running each Tuesday from 9AM to 12 Noon with no appointment required.
