WCA’s Head of Upper and Middle School’s Welcome Letter and Updates to All Upper and Middle School Families

Dear Middle and Upper School Parents:STA-Fletcher-Beth

I hope you are enjoying your summer! We are having a very productive and exciting summer so far! The upstairs is being beautifully painted to match the new lockers won by our awesome Tech team this past year. In addition to the fresh paint, we have been completing a deep cleaning of all floors and classrooms.
While this is needed, it is not nearly as important as the hiring of our new faculty. I am thrilled to share with you the incredible teachers the Lord has brought us.

Susan Rodenberg will be teaching middle and upper school English and history. She graduated from James Madison University with a degree in English and with minors in political science and music. She is currently working towards a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at Regent University. Susan is a state licensed teacher who has been teaching middle school English for the last few years at Berkley Middle School. Her daughter, Emma, is a WCA alumnus and her son, Peter, is a current student. Susan is a published author and is excited to enhance student appreciation of literature and improve their writing skills!

Dan Stec will be teaching upper school English and Apologetics. He will be co-leading our senior mission trip in the spring. Dan graduated from Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin with a degree in Education and English and has spent over 10 years as a Christian school teacher.  He recently moved to Williamsburg with his wife and two young children. She is the worship leader at King of Glory Church where they are members. He is passionate about writing and will be developing these skills in our students.

Michelle Kelley will be teaching middle and upper school Bible classes along with helping to plan and co-lead an upper school mission trip. She graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois with a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. Having recently moved to the area, she is still looking for a church home. In Illinois, she was a leader of children’s and college ministries for the last several years. She is committed to the Word of God and discipling young people.

Jae Kim, WCA’s 2015-2016 soccer coach, will now be filling a new position as an ESL teacher. Jae graduated from Boston College with a degree in Psychology and Literature. For the past 3 years, he has been teaching in York County and in the prior several years has developed and led ESL programs
abroad. Jae is excited to continue coaching girls and boys soccer. He is thankful for the opportunity to serve at WCA and we are grateful to have him!

Please also join us in celebrating the return of these wonderful faculty members: Dr. Dianna Lindsey, Michael Daly, Leslie Coe, Dr. Christopher Schleif, Jessica Westmoreland (Denson), Kristie Van Housen, Jamie Griffin and Maria Torchik.

The faculty and staff are looking forward to seeing you at the following upcoming events:

August 22nd – We will enjoy a New Family Welcome Dinner. Parents of new kids at WCA, come and enjoy a date night out to the school and have dinner on us! This will be a great opportunity to meet other new families and learn more about our school. RETURNING FAMILIES: We are seeking table hosts, people who could join us at the dinner table to help acclimate new parents to our school. If you are interested in hosting a table, please contact me.

August 24th– We will have an Open House. This will be a great time to meet the teachers, put supplies into lockers and visit with friends and classmates. For families that cannot attend the scheduled Open House, please contact me and we can make arrangements to meet teachers and move in at another time that week. Please be sure and check out the missions table as we will be sharing our exciting plans to serve in Arizona and West Virginia this spring!

September 1st – We will host a Family Picnic. Please come join us for this new WCA community event! Bring a picnic dinner for your family and a dessert to share. The fields and playground will be open, as will the outdoor basketball court in hopes that kids and parents can run and play together! This will be a relaxing time for the entire family, and it will be a no homework night!
September 16th – The upper school will spend a fun-filled extended day at the Triple R Ranch. We will have some worship time together and then break into smaller groups to experience the low or high course challenge, canoeing, horseback riding, archery, crafts and a surprise game before returning home. It’s going to be fantastic!

September 23rd – The middle school will be spending the school day at the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center. It will be a fun day beginning with prayer and a devotion time and then filled with tree climbing, zip lining, team building activities and games! You won’t want to miss it!
This is indeed an exciting time in WCA’s history and we want very much for all of our families to re-enroll and be a part of it. If you have not yet re-enrolled and have concerns or unanswered questions please contact me as I would be pleased to meet with you and try to address them.
If your child is enrolled please remind him or her to complete their summer reading assignments which are listed on the website at the bottom of the home page under Summer Reading Lists.
