WCA Students Wow at 1st Annual Night of Fine Arts Performance

There is always mystery and restraint involved whenever a new event is rolled out at WCA…expectations around such things are usually reserved, as is the case most of the time with the unknown. But the 1st Annual ‘Night of Fine Arts‘ certainly surpassed expectations, set a solid bar against which future events will be challenged to exceed, and showed the high level of artistic talents we have coming through the ranks of elementary and middle school.

The Night of Fine Arts events was imagined by the WCA Leadership Team to offer a new and exciting change of pace from the standard school play production, and was led by Music Teacher Chelsea Meisinger. Students were invited early in the year to audition or present work in the areas of music, dance, song, dramatic reading, visual arts and dramatic performance.

The evenings events were broken into two segments separated by an intermission, which gave the audience an opportunity to view Photography and Artistic Origami exhibits by Kaitlyn Sullivan and Rebekah Pettus, and grab a few refreshments.

Most students in the performance segments elected vocal performances, from 4th Grader Emma Shellman offering a stellar rendition of ‘Part of Your World’ from the Little Mermaid soundtrack and a well-executed two piece piano set by Delaney Gibbons, to a hilarious skit ‘Nicole’s Talk Show’ put on by middle schoolers Nicole Zani, Faith Murray, Lainey Flanagan, as well as Madison Oakley and Carly Bruck (as a stalked Emma Watson!), the programs had a little bit of everything. The performers certainly pointed to an incredibly bright future in performing arts at WCA for years to come.
