WCA Boys Soccer Season Starts With Expanding Tradition

Friday evening marked the growth of a new tradition in WCA soccer. Last season, the boy’s soccer team started their season with a scrimmage versus the Tidewater Sharks. This year the scrimmage was expanded, as WCA added Virginia Legacy to the bill as a great test of where Coach Kim’s Eagle squad is at heading into the season. The match was FullSizeRendermarked with great attendance along the sideline as well.

The Eagles are a squad that is retooling somewhat, with the loss of talented seniors Kyle Cardenas and Mike Enz, as well as strong contributors Mike Duncan and Ryan Flanagan, but return quite a few players from last years team…the key to this season will be patience as this collective rounds into shape and learns to play together as a team.

If the scrimmage was any indication of what is to come, though, our Eagles may be involved in a great many low scoring affairs, as the contest was punctuated with stingy defense throughout and not a great many shots on goal.

The crowd goes wildThe afternoon had great attendance as many of the ‘Big Blue Crew’ showed to cheer on the first soccer action of the season. The team invited all three teams into the building after the scrimmage for some food and drinks!

Stay tuned to the Eaglegram for more upcoming games, Soccer tailgates, and even more fun….and if you have a male student here at WCA, encourage them to join! There is no minimum skill level required to join, we are a learning team!
