WCA Eagle Swim Team Posts Several Strong Finishes in First Ever Meet

Saturday several of our students made history, as our new Eagle Swim Team took to the starting blocks for their very first swim meet at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center in Richmond. Five swimmers participated in the 8th Annual Candy Cane JV Invitational, with eight teams from central Virginia in attendance, including powerhouses Collegiate School, Trinity Episcopal, and Millwood.

The very first swim in team history went to Kaitlyn Sullivan, who made it a memorable one, shaving almost 3 seconds off her personal best in the 100 Individual Medley to place 2nd overall, and a Virginia Swimming State Qualifying time. She would also swim the 50 Fly later in the meet and placed 4th.

Junior Aaron Copeland made an impact in both his 50 and 100 Freestyle races with 6th and 7th place finishes respectively. Fellow boy’s side teammate, 7th grader Forrest Balko, placed 8th and 9th in the same events.

Lainey Flanagan notched a 10th place finish in the 50 Freestyle and 12th in the 50 Breast Stroke, while Mary Nice grabbed 7th in the 50 Breast, and 12th in the 50 Freestyle as  6th grader!

The Mixed 4×100 Freestyle Relay also placed 4th overall.

The team will next swim in January at Norfolk Academy.
