Eagle Swim Logs Strong Performance at Norfolk Academy Invitational

Numbering only 8 swimmers, most believed this inaugural season would be a challenging one for WCA to post many strong finishes or end up very far from the bottom of most Invitational Meet points standings.

The small band of Eagle swimmers, however, has decided they have a different idea on that front. Led by Kaitlyn Sullivan’s 1st and 2nd place overall finishes in the Girls 50 and 100Yd Freestyle races, WCA managed to place 5th in the Men’s Contest, and 4th overall in the Girls competition, almost nudging out the host Norfolk Academy team for 3rd.

Lainey Flanagan and Mary Nice posted 10th and 15th finishes for points in the 50 Free,  Nice put together a spirited 50 Breaststroke for 5th overall, and Flanagan and Heather Chandley both scored in the 50 Back with 6th and 13th place finishes respectively. Faith Murray jumped into her first meet with an 11th in the 100 Free.

On the boys side, Aaron Copland scored high with a 6th place finish in the 50 Free, and 10th in the 100 free, while Forrest Balko, with some of the most impressive time drops of the day, scored with 9th and 11th place finishes respectively in the 100 and 50yd Freestyle races.

The day was also landmark as WCA swam it’s first two relays in school history, with the combination of Flanagan, Nice, Sullivan and Murray taking 5th in the Girls 200 Medley relay, and Sullivan, Flanagan, Nice and Chandley grabbing 4th in the Girls 200 Free Relay.

Team Coach Anne Anderson’s tutelage has been pivotal in the team’s success thus far this season, and her positivity and encouraging coaching style has been a blessing to the entire team.

Eagle Swim next travels to St. Catherine’s and St. Christophers Friday Night (1/15)  for their JV Invitational Meet.
