Close your check book, and open your heart. Although cash donations are very much a necessary requirement to WCA’s long term health and to help for our less fortunate students with scholarship needs, not everyone has the ability to contribute monetarily.
There are dozens of ways that you can help out the Academy with donations of time and skills, by diverting Virginia tax dollars to WCA through the use of tax credits, and even by simply shopping for what you already buy!
Here’s Ten ways to help the Academy:
New2You: The New2You Thrift store takes donations (which you can write off on your taxes), and then sells those items. The net proceeds are donated directly to WCA!! Located at 4500 John Tyler Highway in Williamsburg.
Show Your Colors: We will soon have several very cool and hip Eagle Gear offerings including t-shirts, polos, hats and all kinds of varieties of gear for the WCA faithful! Booster items are also available at most sporting events.
Spirit Nights: There will be several planned Spirit nights throughout the year in both eateries and other venues that will be fundraisers for Athletic Boosters and regular school funds.
To Top it Off: As always, we have our BoxTops program. Submitting Box Tops to the office allows us to turn them in for funds we can use for books, and other educational supplies.
Power Boost: If you are paying money to buy tickets to athletic contests and buying WCA hats and shirts, a membership to the WCA Athletics Boosters gets you and your family into all contests free and higher levels come with apparel perks. Go Eagles!!
Out of Uncle Sam’s pocket and into ours: The Virginia Education Improvement Scholarship program allows individuals or businesses to shift amounts due in taxes almost dollar for dollar for assistance to lower income students to come attend WCA. This is a no-brainer (unless you really like paying taxes). Contact sullivanj@williamsburgchristian.org for more info!
On a Wing and a Prayer: We currently have a special partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings. Presenting a special ‘teammate’ card or picture of it when settling your check will send 10% of it to WCA!! Stay tuned for more restaurant partners as well!
May I tag you?: Most of our local grocery retailers, including Farm Fresh, Harris Teeter and Martin’s, all have Education reward programs. In the case of Farm Fresh, a special key tag set up directly for our school can be scanned at the register, and WCA gets a cut to help purchase needed school supplies for the school. At Harris Teeter and Martins, your VIC, or Giant card can be linked to WCA, and every purchase where you scan that keytag or card also gives money to the school. Target also has a program for RedCard holders!
Join the League! Our League is extraordinary, and helps the school not only in events, but also fundraisers, and in tasks that if we did not have volunteers to help complete, would cost the school thousands of dollars. Join the Parent-Teacher League!
Shop til you drop: We currently have an account with Amazon Smile, a special shopping program that gives a small percentage of everything you buy to WCA!
And that’s not all! We are actively searching for passive fundraising sources that can allow you to just link existing cards to rewards, or special restaurant giveback programs you just reference when you receive your bill….we’ll let you know as we compile more programs!
