Eagle Swim Team Members Clean Up at 757swim Awards Ceremony

WCA Eagle Swim Team Members Lainey Flanagan, Kaitlyn Sullivan, and Delaney Gibbons share a few things in common: they all swim for local swim club 757swim, and they are all very strong swimmers. The three all won major awards at 757swim’s recent awards luau.  Kaitlyn Sullivan  was named Most Valuable Swimmer in the Silver 2 division, while Delaney Gibbons and Lainey Flanagan won Most Improved Swimmer awards in the Silver 2 and Seniors divisions respectively. Lainey Flanagan was also the recipient of a Virginia Swimming Competitive Spirit Award, given by Virginia’s ruling swim body on recommendation from their coaches.

All three also competed recently in the USA Swimming Sanctioned Virginia State Swimming Championships, Gibbons and Sullivan on the Age Group level (swimmers under 14) and Flanagan on the Seniors/Open Level (swimmers 15 and over). Gibbons was able to qualify for finals and swam to a 9th place overall finish in the 11-12 Girls 50 meter Backstroke. Sullivan earned a spot in finals in her signature event, the 50 meter freestyle, where she placed 12th overall.

The two finished up their summer swim seasons in Williamsburg Summer League action at the Virginia Peninsula Swim League Championship Meet at Fort Eustis. Gibbons earned a Gold and two Silver medals in 50 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly respectively, while Sullivan earned a gold, silver and bronze in the 50 Breast, 100 IM, and 50 Free.

Also competing at the meet was WCA rising 8th grader Mary Nice, who took 4th overall in the 13-14 girls 50 Breaststroke and 31st in the 50 freestyle, and rising 6th grader Jake Duffy, who placed 21st overall in the 9-10 Boys 50 Breast.
